I know people who have had direct experience of working with KRudd - he is a prize asshole. Still I could never bear to vote for an unreconstructed troglodyte like Abbott. Lucky I was able to cancel my voter registration on account of being non-resident.

Aust. Election in 1 week - A review of Kevin Rudd, PM
by fulltimestudent ini'm still determined not to vote - just to write something unpleasant about pollies on the ballot paper.
if i lived in victoria, i just may, as an act of sheer bastardry, vote for julian assange (of wikileaks fame), but i don't live in vic, so i cant.. my objection to voting is that the political choice offers two self-perpetuating oligarchies (who are something like the governing body).
they make up a slate of candidates and election advertising consists of attempting to persuade swinging voters to vote for their slate of candidates.. anyway, i noted that k.rudd has made a video in chinese, aimed apparently at mainland china.

Premarital sex--how prevalent?
by wafflesandpancakes inin my old congregation, everyone seems clean.
mostly chaste courtship, kingdom hall wedding, blah blah.. well there are lots of cases of fondling but they were soon forgotton.
when my husband and i confessed to sex before marriage, the elders were disgusted.

5go - you are not Robinson Crusoe - my JW wife was a 33 year old virgin before her biological clock started ticking loudly and she found me and ended up pregnant and df'd. Fast forward a few years and we are happily married, apart from the minor issue of her reinstatement and continued incarceration with the borg. So get your skates on and find yourself a wicked worldly boy and do a bad bad thing and everything will end up happily ever after as long as you don't go back after you get df'd or at least get out before they have a chance to df you. Good luck

JW upbringing - the gift that keeps on taking

they openly promote this in their magazines and it's repeated at meetings throughout your formative years.

LMSA - I felt so sad reading the story of your step-brother, for him but also for his poor family. This is a nightmare scenario. How horrible!
BTW - why the moniker are you Argentian and sticking you rmiddle finger up at the Brits but expecting them not to understand Spanish. I am an Aussie with dual British nationality so am not particularly fussed about the Falklands but I could see how it could be seen as inflamatory by any British Nationalists on the site if they understood.

Simon - I was never in so I didn't expereince this but I understand what you are saying and feel sad for you and everyone else on this forum who have painful memories of past 'friendships' and have difficulty making new friends on the outside. I think it would be good if this site could be used to arrange get togethers of members who live in the same general location. I suspect this may happen to some extent but it would be great if it could be expanded on. Or if there are meet-up groups if those meet-ups could be advertised on the site. I suspect the fear of this loss of friends and tainting of those friendship memories is one reason why people stay in even if they have doubts or furiously repress any doubts. Hang in there mate and good luck in creating new friendships and happy memories. Take care

Speaking from personal experience I know what your guy will be experiencing. To people who haven't been exposed it come as a huge shock to find out how things work in 'Jehovah's Organisation' so work with him to help him to understand. At least he has you to help him and you understand the problems and have escaped the manipulation.
Maybe your father will soften over time when he realises you are serious about this guy and particularly if you get married and have kids together or do it the other way around. The fact that he said he is happy if you are happy is a good sign I guess.
I spent 3 days with my wife's family last week and my father-in-law exchange less than a handful of words with me perhaps because I banned him and my wife from taking my son to the KH. I wish you all the best

The New Diary of Winston Smith
by WinstonSmith inwe had to go off grid for a time, time and half a time as we thought we had been outed.
fortunately it was a false alarm, but it was a stressful time.
i asked for my original diary thread to be deleted in case there could be anything on there to identlfy mrs smith and i. i am always very careful when posting, and am sure there was nothing on there, but felt it best to have it removed in order to be as cautious as a dove.

I agree with those who have said this is the best thread on the forum. You and Mrs Smith are brave and inspirational. I was so touched by how you were able to bring Mrs Smith along with you. It really gives me hope.
I feel sad for you losing your friends but were they ever really your friends? I make jibes to my wife about her hanging our with her fake friends but she doesn't get it. At least you will know now that the friends you make like you for who you are not just because you believe the same thing as they do. Friends with who you can disagree on fundamental issues and remain firm friends are the best friends you can have. I will be following your future posts with great interst. Take care
BTW - I am also a big fan of George Orwell and immediately saw the parallels to Big Brother as I started to learn about the WBTS.

I called in to a local radio station to give an opinon
by nonjwspouse init was on the topic of controlling religions ( not the jw topic but another religion) and i mentioned hassans books, and twisted scriptures, suggesting all should be required reading for all teens, but as soon as i mentioned the jw i was cut off, edited that part out by that delay.
odd.
do they really have that much power so that there is no critisizim on a talk radio show that i know is not bothered by contraversy.

The in-house defamation counsel probably did that to avoid a lawsuit knowing how successful the WBTS has been to use litigation to intimidate anyone who criticises them

"Worlds Apart" A danish movie about a young coming of age Jehovahs Witness , screening on SBS2 tonight in Victoria
by smiddy ini know their have been screenings of this movie before , but this notice is for any newbies here that may not have seen it previously.
it is scheduled to screen at 10:25 pm on ch.32 sbs2 sun.25/8/13 .
maybe other states in australia can view it on-line , or request it be shown by sbs in their state.. it is an interesting movie , and apart from minor flaws , pretty accurate despite the beard, though i am told the danes are a bit more liberal than the west.. the real / actual jehovahs witness this story is based on has a cameo appearance near the end of this movie in the train sequence.. please let me know if you watch it and your thoughts about it .. smiddy.

Smiddy - I agree it is an excellent movie - I was just qubbling about some details - and well done to SBS for screening it. It is just a shame my wife will probably never agree to watch it as I think it could have an impact on her. Cheers Frazzled

I watched the movie last night. They threw in the complete kit bag of what's wrong with being a JW - I think the friend dying for not having a blood transfusion pushed things a bit too far - in reality this is a very rare occurrence. I was hoping to show the movie to my wife because there were some parallels to our situation except she went back after being df'd for being with me because her treatment did not cause her to have an epiphany about the organisation unfortunately. I thought the bit about Tabita splitting with her boyfriend because she said it would be unequal for them to be together because she would be giving up everything for him was very interesting and very brave of her to go off and find her own way outside the organisation. It did seem authentic but her complete change from wanting to be a pioneer to understanding she had been lied to because she fell in love, had sex and got hounded by the elders just seemed a bit quick. What dio those who have discovered TTATT think? Can it happen so quickly? I would love for my wife to watch the movie but I suspect it will cause her defensive barriers to come up. Still I will give it a go.
